A Look Back
With tradition, but not backward
Round Table’s birthplace is England. In 1927 at the British Industry Fair the then still Prince of Wales and later King Edward VIII pointed out the importance of learning new things every day. It would therefore be inevitable to continuously adopt new methods, adapt them to individual needs and improve as experience grows.
The “Association of Young Business Men Norwich”, which was initiated by Swiss born and immigrated sweets producer Louis Marchesi, took up those words. Having their regular meetings around a round table, the association shortly thereafter renamed itself to “Round Table No. 1”.
The Prince’s words “adopt, adapt, and improve” have remained to date the international slogan of Round Table. Since the end of World War II Round Table has spread quickly across the Globe to Europe, Asia, Africa, North and South America.
Switzerland’s first Round Table was RT 1 Lausanne founded in 1951. Our Table was the 5th to be founded in this country and was chartered six years later in 1957.
